about portal

library portal is an independent library, arts centre, and meeting place for the community. it is entirely volunteer-run, motivated by community connection and not by profit.

portal is a process of consistent, considered donations of labour, books, performances, thoughts, artworks, pictures, furniture, etc. from a community of people unified by a shared belief in the goodness of accessible, open, and communal lifelong learning. portal is motivated by twin convictions — that our thoughts about the world matter and the world matters for our thoughts. portal donors believe (through experience) that acts of interpersonal, organisational, spatial, musical, discursive and educational care change the ways in which we best understand the world.

library cards and venue hire fees partially cover the costs of materialising the portal (i.e. rent and bills), with donations and volunteers covering the rest. portal would also gladly welcome other donations to the process (labour, books, performances, thoughts, artworks, pictures, furniture) etc. please email hellolibraryportal@gmail.com if you’d like to be involved.

a most heart-swelling thanks to those who have generously contributed to the timeline thus far. A most heart-felt welcome to those yet to join.
